Description

In church history Lucy (Lucia) was a beautiful virgin who defied the Roman emperor's demands to marry outside her faith, refusing a marriage relationship with a pagan. In one version of her story she was punished by having her eyeballs pulled out. In another story she pulled them out herself to thwart the marriage. This saint is revered throughout Europe, especially in Scandanavia.
