About Ralph LeCompte
I was raised in the Pacific Northwest and the rich visual imagery of popular American culture. I've been involved in the arts all my life and have shown works throughout North America as well as displays in Europe and Japan. Over 50 works are on permanent display in schools, restaurants, office buildings and private collections.I considered listing appearances in over 35 juried shows and assorted awards I've won when it occured to me that it just doesn't matter.
What matters is how my art is perceived. If it appeals to you in some way or inspires a thought or emotion that makes you stop and think, then I am happy. I am simply seeking beauty, truth, humor and a rich appreciation for color and form. If it ever becomes more complicated than that, I will quit and go to work in Kafka's cubicle.
I am a diverse-works artist but am often described as representing the low-brow genre. From pop to oil portraits I love an eclectic approach to painting and often find myself drawn to obscure subjects and time frames. My photographic work is merely validation of the beauty that surrounds us already. I firmly believe that the art should speak more than the artist. Thank you for considering my world view as seen in my art.
